Print Description:
The designer seeks balance in all of aspects of design, of which the Niho or "shark tooth" print is a prime example. A traditional kapa pattern often depicted as acute triangles, it bears reference to masculinity and aggression by way of the manō (shark). This version of the tradition seeks to balance these attributes with soft edges and colors. Originally debuted in the Jalene Kanani for Duralee collection, and it is reminiscent of the second stage of kapa beating where the printed impression is pressed onto fabric before it is dyed, resulting in an organic, embossed pattern that evokes unexpected femininity.
